CoBI Happenings
Welcome, 2021!
January 2021
Welcome 2021, we are hoping for a much better year and returning to some semblance of normal, whatever that means :). In 2020, our small group of volunteers turned our focus to supporting our CoBI community through virtual connections. While not our preferred way, we provided some great resources through our Strive and Thrive Facebook Group and lots of great ReDiscoverU Zoom Share Nights and classes which everyone seemed to appreciate and enjoy. We were even able to pull off 2
in-person events, the CoBI Award Luncheon/David’s Drive Golf Tournament went off safely and without issue and we also held a Golf Clinic with the guest pro, Doug Hendrick’s that can be viewed here.
As for 2021, we are hopeful and will try and plan with as much flexibility as possible. Here are a few things we want to share as we start the year:
Grants – the application period for grants is open until January 31st. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to non-profit organizations. Grant applications need to include a plan delineating how the proposed program(s) will be safe during or adapted for COVID-19. Any questions about grants should be directed to MJ Schmidt at mschmidt@remed.com.
ReDiscoverU – we are very excited to announce that the ReDiscoverU classes will be every Monday night at 6 pm. These have become popular and we wanted to make sure that our CoBI community has something to look forward to every week. These classes and schedules can be found on our website and FB page. Thanks to Marlene Rivera and Holly Auth for their leadership of this important programming! View upcoming events
Clinical Forum – We are going VIRTUAL! Our first Clinical Forum, Updates in the Evaluation and Care of Patients with Disorders of Consciousness is scheduled for February 17th from 3:30 pm – 5 pm with Dr. Brian Greenwald, Medical Director of the Center for Brain Injuries and the Associate Medical Director of JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. This lecture is intended for a professional audience, is free-of-charge, and will include a certificate that may be used for CBIS contact hours. Learn more
Special Program – CoBI-Sponsored Phone-In Support Group for Caregivers through Nancy’s House. Based on Jane Hamilton’s book, A Caregiver’s Guide to Self-Care. Tuesday’s from 2:30 pm to 4 pm, starting February 23rd, 2021. Click for registration details.
We want to thank all those who supported us through last year, we had many generous donations and appreciated a number of families directing support as a part of the end of life legacies.
We hope all of you stay safe and healthy and that we will be able to return to in-person opportunities later this year. In the meantime, wear a mask, practice good hygiene, ensure physical distancing, and get educated on the vaccine!
